Brickfilms.com have introduced a new contest to challenge participants to rethink traditional brickfilm production. Under the rules, each entry must feature a minifigure—or an equivalent character—moving within a set that uses as few LEGO elements as possible, with filmmakers even encouraged to use no LEGO pieces at all if they choose.

Small accessories such as carrots, shovels, tables, or chairs remain permitted. However, larger constructions—including full LEGO sets, large scenic builds, and baseplates measuring 16×16, 32×32, or 48×48 studs—are strictly prohibited.
Each animation must run for at least 15 seconds, but beyond these structural limitations, creators are free to tell any story they wish. The rule change aims to inspire inventive staging and unconventional approaches to stop‑motion storytelling.

To participate, post your film to Brickfilms.com and submit it on the contest page before May 17 at 11:59 p.m.

Brickfilms.com have announced the results to Brickstars 2025. 

Just like last year, Brickfilms.com screened about twenty entries on the big screen at the Le Champo cinema in Paris. The screening was followed by an after-party, which allowed for an exchange of ideas, chat and a fun get together.

The Brickworld Film Festival will be held on Saturday, June 20, 2026 at 7:00pm at the Renaissance Convention Center in Schaumburg, IL.

This year’s theme is “Such Great Heights,” and directors are welcome to interpret it literally or metaphorically. The festival has continued to grow, and contestants can win a wide range of prizes.

What’s New for 2026
  • The festival expanded significantly in 2025, and this year continues that momentum.
  • Over $1600 in prizes will be awarded, including a new Youth Award category.
  • The red carpet and photo wall are returning, along with free popcorn for the audience.
  • Formal attire is recommended, but not required.
  • Brickworld remains committed to supporting LEGO stop‑motion as a leading creative medium in North America.
You do not need to attend Brickworld Chicago to enter the contest, but the festival is designed primarily for on‑site attendees. Throughout the week, Brickworld will also host:
  • A LEGO stop‑motion workshop
  • A continuous screening room (the Brickfilm Theater)
  • Many other LEGO‑focused activities
Official Rules:
  • Your film must use LEGO elements to tell a story. Animation, live action, or a mix of both is allowed.
  • Length must be 30 seconds to 5 minutes 30 seconds.
  • Your film must be new and never submitted to a previous Brickworld Film Festival.
  • Using the theme “Such Great Heights” is optional but encouraged.
  • Anyone may enter, but only Brickworld Chicago Registrants are eligible for most prizes.
    • The International Trophy and $150 Gift Card are open to all entrants.
    • The Youth Award is for Brickworld Registrants 13 and under.
  • Films must be appropriate for all ages. Content with swearing, excessive violence, sexual content, or drug use may be disqualified.
  • You must own the rights to everything in your film (visuals, music, characters). No unlicensed copyrighted material.
  • By submitting, you grant Brickworld permission to use your film or clips for screenings, programs, the website, future events, and promotional purposes.
  • One entry per director.

  • Winners are chosen by attendees and judges. There are three main awards plus four subcategories.
