This year’s edition will be hosted at the newly constructed Kaiserhof+ cinema. Organizers have announced “Hoffnung” (Hope) as the official theme, inviting filmmakers to interpret the concept in any creative direction they choose.
Submissions for Steinerei 2026 are open until May 17, 2026, with films capped at five minutes—or six minutes if a baguette is thrown, a humorous tradition carried over from past editions. As in previous years, the festival will showcase roughly a dozen of the best entries, each followed by commentary from an expert jury before awards are presented, including both jury and audience prizes.
