Brickfilms.com Summer Brickfilm Contest Enters Round Two With a Cinematic Challenge

8/2/2026

Picture
The second round of the Brickfilms.com summer brickfilming contest is officially underway, and organizers are encouraging creators to push their visual storytelling skills to the limit. Unlike the first round, participation is fully independent—new entrants can jump in without having competed previously.

This round challenges brickfilmers to produce a single, continuous shot lasting no more than six seconds. The goal: craft the most visually striking moment possible.

Participants are urged to focus on lighting, set design, composition, and camera movement, using every trick in their brickfilming toolbox to create a shot capable of standing on its own. Whether it’s a dramatic reveal, an emotional close‑up, or a sweeping miniature landscape, judges will evaluate entries purely on aesthetic impact.

To help newcomers, organizers offered a simple definition: a shot is one uninterrupted take—much like a single panel in a comic book, but brought to life through motion.

Rules at a Glance
-Create one shot only
-Maximum length: 6 seconds
-Experimentation encouraged: new aspect ratios, bold color grading, fresh set ideas
-Brickfilming techniques should remain central, even in such a short format

Prizes and Giveaways
This round features two LEGO sets up for grabs, awarded to the top entries. As in the first round, one minifigure will be given away at random, giving every participant a chance to win regardless of placement.

Deadline Approaching
Entrants have until Tuesday, August 11 at 11:59 PM to submit their cinematic shot—just ten days remain. Results for all rounds will be announced together in September, once the final round concludes..

2026 Bricks in Motion Summer Contest Announced

8/2/2026

Picture
The brickfilming community is gearing up for a new creative challenge as Bricks in Motion officially opens the Sticks and Bricks Contest, running from August 1 through October 3, 2026. This year’s event introduces a distinctive theme that pushes filmmakers to blend traditional LEGO animation with elements from the real world.

Participants are tasked with integrating real‑world objects or environments directly into their brickfilms. Whether placing minifigures in natural outdoor settings, incorporating everyday household items into sets, or intercutting live‑action footage with stop‑motion animation, the contest encourages filmmakers to explore fresh visual territory.

Organizers emphasize that “real‑world elements” should be genuine physical objects—such as plants, rocks, furniture, or outdoor locations—rather than non‑LEGO toys or materials commonly used in brickfilming. Story remains central, and entrants are encouraged to make these real‑world components meaningful to the narrative rather than simple set dressing.

The competition is open now and will continue until 11:59 PM on October 3. Films may be submitted at any point during the window, but entries must remain unreleased publicly until after the deadline.

There will be prizes to be won. Check out the full contest rules HERE for prizes and how to enter.

A special Promising Director Prize will also be awarded to a newer entrant, featuring the LEGO 31378 Creator Space Exploration Telescope.

A five‑member panel of experienced brickfilmers will evaluate submissions. The judges include: Nurtnaut, Jonah (JO Co), JYB Animations, MAOSL, and Austin (Frame5 Studios).

Judges will assess each film as a complete work, focusing on story, thematic interpretation, and the integration of real‑world elements. Each judge will produce a Top 10 list, which will be combined and refined into a final Top 10 ranking. The top three films will receive prizes from the main pool.

Rules and Requirements
To qualify, entries must include at least 30 seconds of animated footage, with no maximum runtime. While real‑world elements may appear extensively, LEGO or brick‑based animation must remain the primary focus.

BRAWL 2026 Concludes With Record Creativity and a New Champion

8/1/2026

The annual BRAWL 2026 brickfilming contest, hosted by Bricks in Motion, has wrapped, delivering one of the strongest lineups in the event’s nine‑year history. Hundreds of animators raced through the traditional seven‑day challenge, producing an impressive slate of films that judges praised for originality, polish, and inventive interpretations of this year’s theme: “Close.”

This year’s panel—Chris W., JaguarBrickFilms, Teutonic Pictures, and Maosl - evaluated every submitted film. Each judge created a personal Top 30, which were then combined using an instant‑runoff system to generate a unified Top 15. From there, the judges collaboratively refined the list into a final Top 25, weighing story, production value, creativity, and overall cohesion.

Best Newcomer Award
A new prize introduced this year recognizes rising talent in the community. The 2026 Best Newcomer Award went to Up in Frames Animation for their entry Just Off Target, celebrating standout work from a creator still early in their brickfilming journey.

The results post along with the livestream also announced that Chris W. would be stepping down from roles of Bricks in Motion co-administrator and host of BRAWL. Chris emphasized that the decision came without drama—simply the right moment to pass the torch. AeroNomad, this year’s third‑place winner, has been named the new co-administrator. Chris reflected on the contest’s impact since 2018, noting that over 800 brickfilms have been created for BRAWL during his tenure. He expressed deep gratitude to the community, fellow staff, and collaborator Penta, and confirmed he will remain active as a moderator. With a new administrator and a future host yet to be chosen, the Bricks in Motion community enters a fresh chapter. But the spirit of BRAWL remains unchanged: a celebration of creativity, dedication, and the joy of bringing LEGO worlds to life—one frame at a time.
